Denmark - (Europe) Informations sur Denmark
Over 90% of the population of Denmark is Luth. At the end of the Peasants’ Revolt in 1536/1537 Lutheranism prevailed. At least since 1683 it has been the state religion of this Nordic country. For many decades RCath were granted religious freedom only if they were foreign diplomatic representatives. Because they could help to foster the economic growth of the country, Jews and Reformed were granted special privileges at the end of the 17th century. The Basic Law of 1849 introduced full religious freedom but not equal religious rights to all. Only after the introduction of a parliamentary democracy in 1901 did a clearer differentiation between state and church appear in public affairs. Église
